Black Friday Madness- Happy Shopping!

This is it! Last chance for those pre-shopping workouts: squats (to reach the bottom shelf), lunges (for squeezing past fellow shoppers), and cardio (to build stamina during this marathon of a holiday shopping season). Let's go! go! go!

Last year, Santa brought the gift of all gifts for my boys - a windy race track that spun cars around at “lightning” fast speed. They jumped for joy, hugged and kissed the box, and screamed, “thank you Santa!” over and over and over.

They wanted it set up right then and they played with the track for hours. The next day, they played with it again. And the next day, a little less….and soon, it was dismantled and tossed into the toy box. Over the course of the year, it made an appearance every-so-often, but the excitement had faded.

Also that Christmas morning, they each received a bear from Santa. Each bear was handmade; one sporting “Phillies” fabric, the other “Yankees” fabric. Those bears were hugged and kissed and loved, too, and even made it into their bedroom that night (the track stayed in the living room). The next morning, my 3-year-old approached me with his Yankees bear in hand. He said quietly, “Mommy, I bet Mrs. Claus made him for me; I think she knows how to sew.” It was darn near the sweetest thing I ever heard.

Those bears weren’t the only handmade gifts my sons received that year. My 3-year-old got a cool “Thomas the Tank Engine” crayon wallet and notebook set, while my 5-year-old received a “totally rad” surfer’s necklace. Throughout the year, while the car track lay in pieces, they slept lovingly with their bears, that crayon wallet made it to every car trip and my 5-year-old wears his “awesome” surfer chain whenever mommy allows it (parties only).

Handmade didn’t just stop there! It was a “Handmade Holiday” for all, with members of my family and our dear friends receiving handcrafted wallets, purses, soaps and jewelry….all from talented artisans found on etsy. Everyone was amazed at the quality and beauty of these items. I have found that handmade gifts have that little extra “something” that goes a long way….

I even got my own handmade gift from my husband- yep, he got into the handmade holiday craze, too! In fact, he worked one-on-one with a designer on etsy, and they created a one-of-a-kind purse for me. I love the purse not just because it’s beautiful, functional, and matches almost everything in my closet, but because it was designed by my husband and crafted by an artisan with whom he built a relationship. Take that, Nine West!

So once again, this is IT. Your last minute pre-shopping workout: squat, lunge, reach, push! Or maybe this Black Friday, instead of fighting the masses at department stores, or making that difficult decision whether or not to lose your spot in line to find a desperately-needed bathroom, you’ll consider buying something handmade online or at a local craft fair that can be cherished for years to come.

It’s so much easier than working out.

Happy Holidays from B*Cheeky Boutique!!

Multiple Purse-onalities

The kids are off to school, the house is quiet, and Mommy has now found herself with something she hasn't had in almost 6 long years: a quiet moment…a solo trip to the bathroom...and a chance to catch up with laundry, dishes, and whatever other task she faces throughout the day without the nagging (though loving) tune of the toddler singing loudly, "what can we do now?"

So what can I do now? Well, with the change of each season brings a welcome change for me- the changing of my "purse-onality."

I have several bags I tote around during the summer- the cute little coral crocheted number that fits nothing more than Purell and Epipens; the large floral bag I could fit everything and the kitchen sink into, and the--gulp--fanny pack...but only one bag for fall.

I love a great purse- it can be the perfect little accessory! You can change it at whim, and it’s not dependent on how bloated you feel that day. A little over three years ago, I was thrilled to discard my sad, plain diaper bag for something more exciting and cute. In the few short years since my boys have been out of diapers, diaper bag fashions have blossomed into full fledged haute couture!! Cute pink camo, fun bold prints- nothing like the boring solid navy blue number I toted around. And of course NOTHING beats a cute handmade Amy Butler fabric bag. Nothing.

Clutterbags "Cool Bags for Hot Mamas" found on Etsy sells trendy and unique diaper bags, small totes and accessories that really make a statement! Super-cute, very versatile, and best yet, free shipping until September 30. I love them, and I want them all! But alas, like I said, I just sent my last little baby off to school. I'm slowly transitioning out of "mommy-mode"-well, at least, out of "baby-mode." Sigh. Maybe I could convince my husband…? Nah. Maybe I’ll just buy the bag!

Trick or Treat with B*Cheeky Boutique!!

Trick or treat!

It's that time of year, when the full moon shines bright...and the bats take flight...and designers stay up all night....creating for H~A~L~L~O~W~E~E~N!

I love Halloween, and I've always dreamed of decking out my home "Roseanne" style (c'mon, you remember those episodes right?) And one day, when my kids get alittle older, I'll decorate my 1862 Victorian home the way it should be decorated on Halloween, with a tasteful array of bloody stumps, mummys and creepy crawlers.

But for now, so as not to induce nightmares in my preschoolers, I'll settle for a well placed jack o' lantern and a few little cobwebs scattered here and there.

These days, I especially love "boutique" Halloween! And B*Cheeky Boutique's Halloween launch, which started today, has some real "spook-tacular" creations! You have to check out what these b*cheeky designers have "conjured up" for our launch- they are so creative with their designs, you're little goblins will eat them up (along with the candy corn...candy apples...smarties...your dentist bill...wink wink.)

Happy Halloween!

Whooo Whooo loves the county fair?

Whooooo-hooooooo!

Today, we are off today to the county fair! My family went for the first time last year, and when I asked my kids the other day, what the loved best about the fair, their answer wasn't quite what I expected.

You see, there are a ton of fun things to do at the fair! There are of course, the rides, most of which my kids are too small for, but they can go on tame rides like the carousel. There are the fun games, like the basketball toss- I was sure that one was a winner last year. Oh, and the fair is overrun with cute little animals, some more fragrant than others- the baby chickens were adorable, as were the little piggies, the giant cows (yes, cows are adorable), and the enormous Clydesdale's...

We spent an entire day at the fair last year, enjoying our snow cones and wandering around the attractions, and watching kids show-off their prize winning animals.

An entire day.... and you know what my kids said, when I asked them what they loved best? "Mommy, remember the parking lot? It was grass, and rocky and so big!!"

Yup, the parking lot. Could have saved about 40 bucks.

Have a great day!

Are....You.....Readyyyyyyyy!!???!??

Are you ready for that first day back at school? We are getting there....

We spent the morning at Target the other day and bought alll of our supplies. What fun!

Children trying to throw extra things in the cart... fighting over who gets what color pencil box (because it REALLY matters if they have the same!)
Now that we have all the supplies, there is only one more thing to get....
CLOTHES!!!

I believe this will be a long process, as first, we need to go through everyone's drawers and closets to see what we need.... oh the joy!

If you are looking for some great back to school clothes that are unique, fun and will have your child stand out from the crowd, search ebay BCheeky Boutique for some awesome finds!!

Christmas Already?!

With holiday outfits popping up all over eBay and the Internet, it got me thinking about how little time I have left to save money for gift giving.
Like any Mom, kids are tops on the list.

Here are a couple items I have found for your budding crafter:

AmericanGirl has scissors in hand (so to speak)
with Chrissa's Craft Studio

If your budding seamstress is ready for the Real Thing
Amazon has tons of "Kid" oriented sewing machines and supplies

Don't forget to read those very helpful customer reviews!
Whether I buy from amazon or not, I always check their reviews.

One tip of mine on purchasing a beginner sewing machine for a child would be to consider a regular basic model instead of one geared for a child.
This of course depends on your child's age and skill level but I think parents of children over the age of 7 will appreciate the capabilities of a real machine and it's ease of use for both of you.

Teacher's Pet

I’ll be the first to admit, I was a teacher’s pet. Need the black board erased? I was your kid…take the milk money to the lunch room, bring it on! For the majority of my educational career, I sat, front row, hand poised at the shoulder, ready to propel it into the air at any given moment. “Pick me! Pick me!” Yeah, I was a teacher’s pet.

This has clearly rubbed off on my first born child. In his final year of preschool, my big guy embraced his teacher’s pet status and worked at it as if it were an Olympic sport. Line leader, paper-picker-uper, crayon patrol... my son was front and center, arm poised, just like his mommy.

Today, B*Cheeky is proud to celebrate the “Teacher’s Pet!” You can find our Back to School designs by searching "bcheeky" on ebay or clicking here

Have a great day!

What's Out Your Backdoor?

The Internet is an amazing place!
I never thought that I would be a person that could use the phrase "My Internet Friend" when describing someone I talk to on a daily basis.
Over the years I have made many "Internet Friends" and have even met a few of them in person...Yes I know, Freaky ;)

We are all from different parts of the country and the world.
Show off "What's out your Backdoor"

I live in Florida, the first images that come to mind for most are white sand beaches, maybe even Disney.
Here's what I wake up to every day

Not what you thought, huh?

Whether your at work or home take a snap shot out your door or window and share it on your blog.
If you do, post a comment so we can take a peak into your world.

Sew what you say?

Well ‘tis the season right…I mean it’s already July and (gasp) do I hear the rumblings of Christmas already????? So here’s a little something that I think we can all relate to as the ebay boutique world starts ramping up for the season! (Think T’was the Night Before Christmas when reading )

Twas the 4th of July and fireworks were booming
but here in my room I fret Christmas is looming.
Time to be merry and jolly and bright
unfortunately, all I want is to sleep tonight.
I need to pull out my red and green stash
while wracking my brain for a design that’ll bring cash.

So alas I must focus and start spreading the cheer
in hopes that some buyers will suddenly appear!
So tomorrow I’ll start after my list of “to-do’s”
The pool, a bike ride, softball tournament too!
I’ll heat up the barbi and prep all the fixin’s
yes then, maybe then, I can focus on mittens.

The day came and went and the sun was a scorcher
Now I guess I’d better get on with this torcher.
I’m lacking the Christmas spirit I fear
perhaps it’ll help if I picture eight tiny reindeer.
Ah yes that’s the ticket, think Santa and elves.
Now let me see what fabrics’ up on these shelves!

More red, more green, some gold, it’s just right!
but wait just a minute, I need a Euro delight…
Hot pink for sure will fix it up quick
no need to worry and make myself sick!
I’ve got this no problem I can’t wait to be done
then it’s off to be modeled and that’s when it gets fun!

You think you can stump me?
not a chance, now you see
a designers’ a designer no matter what the climate may be
and a launch is a challenge, now that is the key!
It is why we continue to do what we know
it may make us crazy but it brings in the dough!

But what do I hear, a loud voice booms up the stair…
Sew faster, sew faster, oh do I dare?
Perhaps if I’m quite he’ll go back to bed
and then my addiction will fully be fed!
Now I hear him exclaim out into the night
Come to bed dear…no more boutique stuff tonight!

Oh what a drag I was on such a roll
but lack of sleep I’m afraid really takes a toll.
I’ve stifled that itch, the urge to create
and now I can rest with this launch off my plate.
So I guess until next time I’ll have to put it away
but who’s to say I can’t begin designing for Valentine’s day….

Fireworks, Family, and alittle "Toot Toot"

I hope everyone had a wonderful, fun and safe holiday weekend! My kiddos saw the local fireworks show for the first time, and watching their little awestruck faces made the numbness I suffered from sitting on the chilly bleachers for 2 hours totally worth it.

4th of July weekend is chock full of picnics and parties, and I think the best part, at least for my family, is getting reacquainted with the folks we don’t get to see often. This weekend, while at a large picnic with many distant relatives, my kids surprised me by not cowering behind us when greeted by someone they weren’t familiar with. I actually heard a “nice to meet you” come out of my 4 year old. Wow, what a difference from last year, when the two of them managed to wedge themselves between my backside and a tree.

By the way, forgive me as I…toot toot!! That’s right, toot that horn!! This holiday weekend, a few more b*cheeky members have been featured!! Sophie of Sophies*Beads was featured, along with myself on Journal Modiste. And Jessica of SweetTreatBoutique was featured on CBD. Congrats ladies and toot that horn!!

Have a great day!

4th of July!

We want to wish everyone a funfilled and safe holiday weekend! Going to go see some fun great fireworks? Out to the lake? Or as we here in Michigan say.... we are going up north!

Lots of fun times with family is planned for the weekend... provided we can find someone to watch our lovely doggies!

Anywho.. here is a fun recipe that we are bringing to the cookout tomorrow. Super easy to make, delicious and sorta not horrible for you either!

2 packages of instant pudding (I am using chocolate)
Graham crackers
Cool Whip

Mix up your pudding according to directions. I mixed mine according to the directions to make a pudding pie... it is a bit thicker that way.
Layer graham crackers in the bottom of a cake pan. Layer of pudding, layer of cool whip. Repeat! Stick it in the fridge..

Easy easy! And oh so yummy!!!

Monday....Monday....or, "Did You See That Sewing Machine Dangling From the Window?"

It’s Monday, and everyone is back to work, or at camp…or camped in front of their sewing machines, working.

I have to chuckle, because I am a crocheter, and have not forged that bond with my sewing machine, like so many of you have. Many late nights, when I've gotten the itch to sew, say, a simple pillow for my son, I would drag the ole Singer up from the basement, dust it off, and begin. But as I stepped on the foot pedal, the thread would break, the needle would get stuck, and the bobbin would fly across the room. And my patience? Out the window…along with my sewing machine. No, I do not have the knack for sewing.

But so many of you do! And I’m amazed by the talented designers in b*cheeky who manage to create relevant, funky and fun designs weekly, if not daily; and all the while, with flawless execution.

So this Monday, as I watch my Singer swingin' in the breeze, yet again, I salute all our fabulous "sew-ers":

Have a wonderful day…and happy sewing!

And Away We Go...

School's....out....for.....summer!! So what's next for all of us designers (you know, besides entertaining our children from sun up t'il sun down, drowning in sunscreen and mediating sibling wars?) Gearing up for Back to School!!

It's that time of year- and watch out for our Back to School launch- coming July 13.

B*Cheeky Boutique is a group of designers, dedicated to quality fashions, fun designs, and a cheeky disposition. And the best part? We are expanding!! (and you can follow us on twitter too...www.twitter.com/bcheekyboutique)

You can look forward to daily posts, featuring the writings of several different designers from our team. They can blurb about whatever they want- favorite shops, trends, how annoying their husbands are on that particular day- whatever strikes their fancy.

I hope we can give a fresh perspective on the ins and outs of the boutique world, but I'll settle for some silly banter, and a game or two...

So we're up and running...and away we go!!
